Have a Trunk Show of Your Art
SDA members may choose to display their work at the Member’s Trunk Show at the biennial International SDA Conference. It is one of the most popular evening events at the conference!
Participate in the SDA Members Exhibition
An exhibition is held in conjunction with each biennial International SDA Conference. Each SDA member may submit a piece of textile art showcasing her/his surface design creativity to this non-juried exhibition. Awards are given in several categories.
Showcase Your Fashion Designs
Submit your fashion creation for possible inclusion in the fabulous SDA Fashion Show – a wonderful evening event at each biennial International SDA Conference. Awards are given in several categories.

Apply for Awards
SDA Student members (Both graduate and undergraduate candidates) may apply for the Annual Creative Promise Award. Instructors at colleges and universities with fiber-related degree programs can award one Outstanding Student Award per year to a student enrolled in a fiber, fashion or costume design program. Display your art in the Digital Image Library
- Two images uploaded to the SDA Image Library on SDA’s web site are included with your SDA membership.
- Add a $25 yearly fee and you can upload and display up to ten images along with your artist’s statement, biography and description of your displayed artwork.
This benefit lets you have your own mini web site within the SDA site. You may include a link to your own, larger site if that is available.
Members who upload their work to the SDA Image Library may have their work selected to appear and be credited in the SDA eNews banner at the top of the monthly news bulletin from SDA which is emailed to all members with email accounts.
A thumbnail of your artwork will be available for anyone visiting the SDA site to click on and see and expanded view with details of the work and credit to you as the artist.
Utilize the SDA Digital Image Library to create:
- A personal reference collection.
- A PowerPoint digital presentation for an SDA member to use in giving a presentations on surface design and fiber art in their community.

Host a Local SDA Meeting or Event
Members are provided with step by step instructions on how to plan, promote and present a meeting for SDA members in your area. Borrow the SDA Swatch Library
SDA maintain a library of 12″ x 12″ (30 cm x 30 cm) samples of SDA members’ creative surface design work. Displaying them is a great way to stimulate conversation at an event. To learn more about this traveling library go to: SDA Swatch Library.

The SDA Journal is the premier publication on surface design and fiber art.
